Hey Helen

...and anyone else using aol.

AOL hates me.
It regularly deletes email from me to you and doesn't even tell you about it.

If you're not getting an acknowledgement for your queryshark email, and you're using aol, dollars to donuts, that's the reason.

And Helen, I've got all three of yours on file.

  1. What if we're using gmail and not hearing back regarding our submission? :-/

  2. Seeing this pop up in Google Reader, I thought someone had actually addressed a query to the shark and opened with, "Hey Helen!"

Good to know it's just AOL being crazy and not us writers for once. :)

  3. Matthew, you might want to check you're not doing any of the several things that make me despair of people actually learning things in the archives. There's a list.

  4. Would you consider a note ("form rejection") simply saying you're not posting for reason A (despair: did not follow directions) or reason B (meh: not noteworthy enough as good or bad) or reason C (despair: your query is such a heap of steaming offal that I can't bear to look at it).

I don't mean to increase your workload, rather to speed things along. And you ought to have a tip (tribute?) jar. ;-)

  5. Maybe AOL was in a good mood the day I sent mine in. I got a very nice acknowledgement that you received my query. And thank you for letting me know.

  6. Janet, yes. (Just injecting a positive sentiment. Karma, you know.)

Thanks for your hard work. Really.

  7. I sent my query to you last month and I haven't gotten a rejection letter or a letter saying that it was accepted or anything and I am not using AOL.
    What do I do?

  8. Michelle, if you mean Query Shark, send it again. Make sure you don't do anything I've ranted about a lot. My annoyance level on queries that have your physical address at the top has reached the point of no return: they're deleted.

  9. I'm so happy you've posted something! For some reason, I read that your blog was discontinued, and I was very upset about that.

Good to know your blog is continuing!
